Environmental responsibility and commitment
As a small independent operator, it is easy to imagine that our activities have no impact on the places we visit and the people with whom we have contact. But of course that is not true.
We may be small-fry but in our view, this does not preclude us from the obligation to try wherever possible, to offer our guests a fulfilling experience which also takes account of social and environmental responsibility. We are by no means perfect but we want to promote the concept that traveling to wild places and engaging with other species and cultures, is very much a privilege rather than an automatic right.
Planting trees is one way of offsetting carbon emissions from air and car travel. By planting native species, ecological conditions are improved, which benefits a wide range of wildlife – including us.
Northshots Pledge
Northshots has pledged to fund the planting of at least 3000 native trees over the next three years. To do this, we have teamed up with Trees for Life, a Scottish-based charity promoting restoration of native forest across wide areas of the Scottish Highlands. It is our intention, to create a “Northshots Forest”. We will do this by purchasing saplings, which will be planted by Trees For Life.
Each tree costs £5 to rear and plant and we will be purchasing trees on behalf of every guest signing up for our trips during 2007-2010. In addition to our own commitment, we will be offering all guests the opportunity to voluntarily match fund our contribution to help offset their carbon emissions.
How does it work?
For every guest booked, we will purchase 3 trees.
Northshots Loyalty Club members will have 25 trees donated on their behalf for every 5 trips taken with us.
Guests can “match fund” our contribution by including a cheque made payable to “Trees for Life” for the appropriate number of trees when making a holiday booking.
