There’s something about the coast; and there’s something about islands. The sense of isolation and perhaps even vulnerability combines with our desire to explore and experience ‘the edge effect’. The Outer Hebrides off the north-west coast of Scotland are very much on the edge. The turquoise Atlantic Ocean pounds the glistening white sandy shores of the islands, shifting and shaping the sands of the Hebridean Machair.
Lewis and Harris are the two most northerly islands in this Hebridean chain, stretching for 70 miles and dotted with intimate rocky coves and endless white beaches. But this tour is all about light and drama. As the relentless pounding of the Atlantic winter ebbs away, this wild western outpost enters a short period of change – change that brings brooding skies and tranquil seas. It is that change that we seek to capture. Working primarily along the rugged coastline, we will be out early and late in search of those unique moments that will etch themselves on your mind for always.
Our locations are carefully chosen and are all relatively accessible, although a reasonable degree of fitness and agility is required throughout. The tour will include beach favourites such as Luskentyre, Scarista and Dalbeg as well as other less-visited spots. This tour is all about making the most of the spectacular coastal scenery but of course, no trip to the outer isles would be complete without a visit to the famous Callinish Stones.
