There are few photographic subjects as engaging and charismatic as the red squirrel. Here in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, this arboreal acrobat retains its last UK stronghold amongst the pine forests with their under-storey of heather and blaeberry.
From our range of purpose-built photography hides, our intensive ‘bootcamp’ focus on the red squirrel is designed to allow guests the opportunity to secure in-depth and wide-ranging images that are simply not possible without a significant investment of time. Our four feeding stations are all positioned to optimise light, viewpoint and background and provide a wide range of natural settings. Collectively our sites are unsurpassed when it comes to professional standard red squirrel photography (sorry to brag but it’s true!). Along with the feeding stations close to our base, we'll be working with Neil McIntyre, a renowned local photographer who has been working with his own red squirrels for longer than anyone, anywhere, ever! Suffice it to say, you'll be in the best company.
The timing of this short tour is to maximise the chance of extensive snow coverage and although the days are short and the weather fickle, the conditions at this time can be the most exciting of the year.

Photographic sites are all accessed via a short walk so only a minimal level of fitness is required. You should however be prepared to spend up to 5 hours sat in a hide or in the open remaining relatively still.
In charming converted steading overlooking the River Feshie and the Grampian Mountains (see our home base).
