Pic of the month: Sep '10
White-tailed (sea) eagle, Norway
It must be almost a decade since I first went to Norway to photograph sea eagles.  At that time images of this species were rare, but times have changed.  The digital era ended the reign of exclusivity and you need no longer search long and hard for  jaw-dropping images of not only sea eagles, but almost any other species you care to think of.  Ten years ago this image might have raised at least a few eyebrows; now it hardly elicits a yawn.

Those familiar with the location in which this picture was taken, will know the fascinating story behind the scenes.  And there's the rub.  I've seen hundreds of sea eagle images like this but I've rarely seen or heard the story told.  Perhaps the secret then is context.  Perhaps 'spectacular' is no longer enough.  Perhaps the camera and its owner need to be not only recorders but storytellers.
Best regards

Peter Cairns
