A number of Peter's images are being used by EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) as part of their Europe-wide Carnivore Campaign, a multi-media initiative to promote co-existence with large predators.

The Tooth & Claw exhibition has now opened in the Budongo Trail at Edinburgh Zoo. Although space prevents the full exhibition being shown, it's a great setting and well worth a visit.RZSS, the owners of the zoo, are arranging a 'meet the photographer' evening on January 15th. Peter has just returned from the second of his Wild Wonders of Europe missions in Swedish Lapland. Although disappointed by the absence of the main target species - European elk - the spectacular landscapes of Sarek National Park, provided partial compensation. Highland Wildlife Park project delivered.

As part of an ongoing partnership with Royal Zoological Society for Scotland, the owners of the Highland Wildlife Park, Peter recently delivered a series of visual interpretation boards to line a new waymarked trail at the park.This is one of several conservation photography projects - using imagery to effectively communicate conservation messages - presently underway.

Wild Wonders of Europe is a pan-European conservation photography initiative which has been two years in the planning. Peter Cairns, along with fellow photographers Staffan Widstrand and Florian Moellers are commissioning 50 of Europe's premier nature photographers to document the continent's natural treasures. For the second year running Peter Cairns has been recognised in one of Europe's most demanding wildlife photography competitions. His image of a grey seal was 'highly commended' in the mammals behaviour category.

Alladale Wilderness Reserve

This 23,000 acre estate in Northern Scotland has a vision to become the Northern Hemisphere’s first Africa-style game reserve. Plans are in place to restore the impoverished forest habitat and research is being undertaken into the feasibility of re-introducing native mammals such as roe deer, wild boar, wolf and lynx.Peter Cairns has been appointed to document the project’s progress in images over the next five years.
