July- Northern gannet, Ireland

How many people have photographed gannets? Thousands. Tens of thousands. So what's the point in me replicating what's already been done? That's a question I asked myself before, during and after a recent trip to Ireland. I can't offer a logical answer; I can't justify the time and expense; I didn't really manage to get anything radically different. So why do it? Well it's bloody good fun that's why. Every now and then, we all need a holiday and this was mine. OK, it was a photography holiday but I had no master plan, no agenda, just a need to go back to what I love doing: taking wildlife pictures. Next time I might even go for two weeks - hold me back!
