January- Mute swans, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland
Come on now, anyone who owns a camera must have used it to record the spectacular conditions over Christmas? For me, it has been one of the most productive winters in recent years with temperatures remaining well below freezing for over two weeks. Christmas eve on a local loch was particularly special with ice forming even as I watched. This pair of normally wary swans, were forced into an ever-diminishing area of free-running water which eventually forced them to fly to alternative feeding grounds. At minus 16c and with three frostbitten fingers, I followed suit.
